Getting to know ... our talent who took their next big step (2)

At Scoutbee we like to provide our talented employees with the freedom to grow quickly and take on early responsibility to lead projects. Here are a few examples of employees who started with us as Interns and quickly rose to become leaders of their teams. Let’s start with the journeys of Lisa Kopala, Jaydeep Gondalia and Shivani Jadhav …

Lisa Kopala, Strategy and Process Associate

In which position did you join scoutbee?

I started 2019 as a working student in Sales at scoutbee.

Why did you choose scoutbee as your new employer?

As I studied Business Management at the University of Würzburg with a focus on Industrial Management, Supply Chain and Information Management, scoutbee was mentioned several times in lectures as an example of how the supplier search in procurement can be simplified, optimized and automated. That aroused my interest.

What expectations did you have?

Since I had previously gained insights into logistics, procurement and production as a working student alongside my studies, Sales was once again a completely new area. I wanted to get to know this, understand it and find out whether Sales was something for me.

Have your expectations been met?

My expectations were definitely met as I got the chance to participate in on-site customer meetings (before Corona times) as well as sales trainings with my colleagues. I was involved and engaged from day one by my colleagues to learn and develop as much as possible. I worked independently and flexibly and was allowed to take on responsibility. And that’s how I ended up starting full-time at scoutbee in Sales Operations, and almost a year later I moved to the Strategy & Process team to take on a new challenge.

What would you say is special about working for scoutbee?

The team. I really enjoy working with so many dedicated and smart colleagues of so many different nationalities, all willing to share their knowledge and support wherever they can.

What do you like the most about your current job?

What I like most about my job is that I have points of contact with almost all the other departments at scoutbee. This gives you a lot of insights beyond your own area of responsibility.

Jaydeep Gondalya – Sourcing Operations

In which position did you join scoutbee?

I joined scoutbee in August 2018 as a data engineer intern.

Why did you choose scoutbee as your new employer?
After moving from India to Germany, I was quite curious about the work culture in Germany, and I didn’t have any previous work experience either. Therefore, I decided to start my career by doing an internship at a German company, specifically at a start-up. I personally felt that I could learn more at a start-up compared to an established multinational corporation.

Secondly, I was very passionate about data and artificial intelligence. While studying for my MSc., I looked for an internship in the same field. That’s how I ended up at scoutbee.

What expectations did you have?

In terms of work culture, I was expecting to have open-minded colleagues who are easy to connect with and that’s exactly what happened at scoutbee. That was also my reason for choosing a start-up rather than an MNC.

In terms of learning, I expected to learn more about the data world, gain familiarity with new technologies, and solve real-world problems by using AI.

Have your expectations been met?

To some extent, I would say yes. I joined scoutbee to kickstart my career in the data world and I did that by writing my master’s thesis on artificial intelligence. Apart from that, during my journey at scoutbee, I’ve gotten to know some really nice colleagues and have also made some amazing friends. I am, and will always be, thankful to scoutbee for that.

What would you say is special about working for scoutbee?

More freedom and encouragement for creative ideas.

What do you like most about your job?

The coolest thing about my job is that you have access to never-ending industry knowledge and that helped me to understand how many parts you require in total to manufacture a single car – around 25,000 to 30,000.

What do you think was the reason behind your recent promotion?

Firstly, I’ve been here for more than 3 years, and I’ve witnessed how the team has grown from 2 members to the current 26.

  1. Being a senior member, it is my responsibility to onboard new members in the right way and welcome them warmly to the team.
  2. By having knowledge of data science and sourcing, I always look forward to optimizing the sourcing process. Therefore, I am mainly responsible for cross-functional collaboration with the data team in order to empower the sourcing tool widely known as Demand Guru.

Shivani Jadhad, Data Scientist

In which position did you join scoutbee?

I joined Scoutbee as a Master Thesis Student. Being an information retrieval enthusiast, the thesis topic gave me an opportunity to work on my area of interest.

Why did you choose scoutbee as your new employer?

While working on my thesis topic, I realized that there is a lot to be explored as a data scientist in scoutbee. Being a strong believer in exploration-based learning, I don’t think I have more to ask from scoutbee.

What expectations did you have?

Being a student from a research institute, I like experimenting a lot. My expectations are/were to be able to form a hypothesis and come up with the proof.

Have your expectations been met?

Certainly, apart from working on the existing modules, I get to form a few research questions, carry out a few experiments and if the experiments give good outcomes, the existing modules are updated accordingly.

What would you say is special about working for scoutbee?

scoutbee promotes learning.

hat do you like the most about your job?

I get to work with people who are not just smart, intelligent and with strong work ethics but also helpful and kind. Being an absolute beginner in this field, everyday I get to learn new things.

What do you think was the reason for promoting you to your recent position?

I think my interests and goals aligned perfectly with the goals set by the Data Science team at scoutbee.

Our bees make scoutbee the special, vibrant company it is. While having different backgrounds and personalities, every colleague has a passion for their field of work and our collective mission.
